"JAVA IS GREAT BUT KOTLIN WILL TAKE OVER IT SOON."

JAMES WARD says

Who is James Ward?

He is the Kotlin Product Manager at Google who is also a Java Champion.

Recently, in an interview with InfoQ he was asked about the status of JVM languages in 2022, to which he replied

"Kotlin is an incremental step for existing Java developers having good support for some Functional paradigms like immutability and sum types. Kotlin has great interoperability with Java, enabling ecosystem sharing."

According to him, Java was always the most popular programming language for Android Development, but now Kotlin has become the "one-stop language" for mobile app development.

But why Android Developers are now preferring Kotlin over Java?

This is because Kotlin is known to perform better compared to Java owing to its additional features.

The best thing about Kotlin is that the apps built with this programming language also operate smoothly on old Android phones. It allows the Android app to be used by a greater number of users.

Kotlin is simpler and easier to understand and use than Java. This is the reason of its growing popularity.
